October Eclipse Updates: Part 1 &  Part 2

October 8, 2004

SEVEN RANDOMLY-CHOSEN ( YET DEEPLY
COMPELLING )  REASONS FOR TAKING THE
BETA MIND WORKSHOPS!

1)  PSYCHIC PROTECTION

Are you a highly sensitive person?  Do you find that you start your day feeling
fine but after one interaction with a crabby person you feel bad?  Are you often
picking up the fear, negativity, anger and depression of others?
Do you give your power away to others unnecessarily?

If so these workshops are for you!  Learn specific psychic techniques to
protect yourself from the emotions of other people, (including the generalized
fear in our culture as a whole).  These are life-saving practices, let me tell you.
They definitely saved me.  They are especially crucial for anyone working with
the public, any therapists, bodyworkers, nurses, parents, but truly, unless
you're a total hermit, these practices will change your life.  Believe me, you
need more than white light to protect yourself. (As a woman in the last
workshop said, "White light attracts psychic moths!" )
Learn how to easily identify psychic "vampires"; learn how to
be protected from negativity yet connected to love.

Even if this was the only reason you came to the workshop, it
would be enough.

2)  TRUST THE INNER VOICE, SEE HOW INTUITIVE YOU REALLY ARE

How many times have you said after an event,  "I knew that!  I knew
not to do that!" Our inner beings are constantly giving us clues about
what path to take, but often it is so hard to listen.  Partly because of
the influence of other people's thoughts and feelings upon us
(yep, see #1 above). Partly the constant static of our culture.
But also because we're not usually focused on listening to this inner
Mind of God in a systematic way and honoring the answers we receive.
Throughout these past 25 years of working as a psychic I've learned
many many techniques for trusting the inner answers...They are so
simple, it would be crazy to not share them with you...

3)  RELEASE THE CRITICAL MIND TO EMPOWER THE INNER MIND
Most people waste so much time beating themselves up and thinking
negatively. The Beta Mind is the overly trained critical aspect of our
brains.
But it is only one kind of brain wave ( You know when scientists say
we only use 5% of our brains? That's on a good day.)
Luckily, the Alpha Mind, the slower, meditative, inner-oriented
mind is deeply impressionable and will believe whatever we tell it.
Practice the profound power of re-programming the Alpha Mind
and changing the neural networks within the brain.  It takes more
than half-hearted affirmations, but through focus
and repetition, the Alpha Mind will create the highest for you.
Whether the topic is finances, relationships, career, health, or finding
your highest form of service on the planet, the Alpha Mind is your inner
servant, ever-waiting to receive your directions.
I love this quote someone gave me when the workshop went to
Harbin recently, "We don't always get what we want, nor necessarily
what we 'deserve,' but we always, always get what we expect."

4)  MAKE THE GOD OF YOUR HEART YOUR INTIMATE COMPANION
Over the years of giving thousands of readings, this topic always moved
me the most.  I would read amazing person after person, some of whom
had spent many  years on this spiritual path or that, who still didn't feel a
deep relationship to the God of their own hearts.  In Sanskrit this internal,
chosen Lord is called the Ishvara Devata.
Engaging with it fully means never needing to rely on your own strength
again. In a culture which puts such a focus on external authorities, it's
incredible to become anchored in this inner authority.
A lot of you know me.  I'm a pragmatic mystic.  You can have profound
meditation experiences till your hair catches on fire, but until the inner
God is also included in the practicalities of your daily life, there is some
separation and aloneness.  We'll use down-to-earth techniques for inviting
this force to engage in every decision, every action, every problem.
No need to feel alone again.

5) YOU LOVED THE MOVIE "WHAT THE BLEEP"
I was amazed when this movie came out as it covered so much of where
my own work was headed.  I'm thrilled it's finally receiving national distribution.
While parts of the movie are brilliant in detailing how current science proves You
are God Creating Your Own Reality, it doesn't tell how to harness this energy
in our
lives on a practical level.  Come to this seminar.  We'll pick up where the
movie left off.

6) MEDITATION

If you have a hectic life like many people, the workshop weekend will be an
island of tranquility.  In the midst of the practical exercises, we'll have plenty
of time for meditation and contemplation.  So whether you've had trouble
meditating in the past, are new to it, or simply want to deepen your own rich,
ongoing practice, this workshop can help.

 7)  EAST/ WEST COAST
A lot of you know me but some don't, so I'll throw this in.  You might like to
study all this with someone who merges a semi-acerbic intellectual vitality
with impassioned, devotional spirituality.  Sort of a New York mind and a
California heart.  If you have a longing for spiritual/psychic growth but aren't
too fond of saccharine New Age platitudes, you'll be right at home.
So here’s the link:
http://www.toshasilver.com/080207_workshops.html

But wait, there’s more…

Bonus Reason 8)
JOAN SPEAKS from the last workshop:
"Before this Beta mind workshop I was saying the last thing I needed was one more
seminar...Little did I know how intensely transformative those two days would be!  I
feel a confidence in my own inner voice I absolutely never knew before.  I'm moving
through my days with a divine conviction, making decisions easily ...and I can hardly
believe this is me.  The training is priceless.  What else can I tell you?  Don't miss the
chance to take this seminar!”
Joan H, Half Moon Bay, CA

Bonus Reason 9)

PAUL SPEAKS from the New York classes:
“Hey I’m a guy who’s always had a tough exterior, but down deep I was really quaking
with fear.  Fear of the future, fear about my finances, fear of getting older, fear of being
alone, all of it.  Since your seminar in June a frickin miracle has occurred.  I have been
living in the moment, each day, for months now, without fear, for the first time in my life.
And so much good is coming to me that I could never have been open to receive before.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
Paul V, Long Island City, NY

Bonus Reason 10)

IF ALL THE WHILE
you were reading this email
you could hear a quiet voice within your heart
saying, "Yes, it's time.  This is for you,"
then listen.

So, are you ready for the link?

Love, happiness, and courage to you,

October Eclipse Update—Part 1
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Even each blade of grass has its own angel alongside
whispering, "Grow! Grow!"
---The Talmud
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone...
Well, I promised I would write about the upcoming eclipses on
October 13 and 27.
But first, a little detour.  I watch maybe 2 hours of TV a week, so you
know it's unusual for me to use this newsletter to discuss that odd
galaxy.
But the other night when I watching The Debate,  I reached the
highly evolved state of being about to throw my shoe really hard
at the screen...
So I changed the channel instead.  And behold, the media gods
blessed me with this divine interview with Richard Gere.  In fact,
I tuned in at the exact moment he was answering how Buddhism
has affected his acting career.
Sometimes, he said, he would struggle with a certain role,
and he just couldn't get it "right".  At that point he always
knew to back off, stop the effort, trust, and put his focus elsewhere.
Trying too hard  would strangle the character, cut off the air.
Invariably if he gave the role its own room to breathe and grow,
it would show him the way.  He would invite the role to reveal itself
to him. By taking the focus off the problem, off the effort, and having
complete faith that every benevolent force in the universe wanted to
help him know that role, the doors would spring open.  He spoke
about knowing that if indeed it was his destiny to play a certain
character, all the help of the universe would become
available to make it so.
******
And so with the role we're each here to play?  His words are exactly
what I would suggest for the next two weeks.
(Now  when it comes to political effort, it’s obviously different.
We're at a critical juncture; no need to remind you it’s time to take
every action that can be legally taken in the next weeks (including voting!).
The movies “Fahrenheidt  9/11” and “Outfoxed”  are both out on DVD now;
I’m finding they’re good gifts to send to people in this final stretch--
(especially those in swing states who may have only been getting
informed from the supreme fantasy kingdom of Fox TV).
But on the personal level, it's a good time to give yourself (amidst all this)
some time to replenish and refill.  If you've been struggling with an issue
in your life, perhaps give it a rest till the end of October.
We're in desperately needed breathing space.

The first solar eclipse on October 13 is a new moon in Libra.

This brings new beginnings in the area of relationships (Libra terrain)
but also in whatever house Libra falls in your own chart.  So for each of
us, a new chapter is afoot.  You don't have to knock yourself out to make
it happen.  This one comes on its own.
The astrologer Eric Francis  (www.planetwaves.com) says eclipses are
when universe shifts gears.  I love that.  You just have to show up and be
open.  Not much else is required if you've done your preparation.
(What preparation?  Keeping your mind positive...creating space for the
new to come...
not sabatoging the new with lots of negative, depressing and restrictive
thoughts...
being grateful for the blessings that already exist..
.for more concrete details, come to the next Beta Mind workshop or
take a teleclass!  See below.)

The second eclipse on October 27 is little more gnarly.

It's a lunar one in Scorpio, and this could be an intensely emotional, even
somewhat fearful, time. Scorpio is a water sign so stirs up the feeling life.
Given that it will fall 6 days before the election, that's easy to imagine.
However, many of you know I love this much-maligned passionate sign.
This is a time made for emotional release.  These Scorpio eclipses usually
make us think about our mortality, although the actual death and rebirth
is often spiritual and emotional.

Here's a wonderful  forgiveness ritual to do on October 27 (eclipse exact at
8:07 PM PST).  Or you may find you’re drawn to do it a few times leading up
to that day. Of course rituals are great to create and customize as you go.
This is just to get you started. (In fact if anyone writes with experiences from
doing this, I’d love to print them in the next newsletter.)
Write a list of all the feelings that hold you back, keep you prisoner, keep you small.
Old moldy resentments towards others from your past, anger from childhood,
secret revenge plans, bitterness, disappointments, grudges towards yourself and
others, whatever.  Scorpio rules all the toxic, buried stuff.
Write and write and write.
If there's someone in particular you really resent (even if that's God), then write a
long letter letting it rip and say everything you've always wanted to say to them.
Hold nothing back.
Every simmering resentment (the low-end of Scorpio) is a psychic ball and chain
causing illness, victimization, and depression.  Here’s the chance to totally cut
free. But don't send the letter.
Once you've gotten this all out  (it can be surprising, many people can get
to the heart of this in even an hour), offer it all up to your own inner Divinity.
To whatever you would call that force of love.
How?
Something as simple as “Okay God, I’m ready to be free from all this!”
would work.  Or at least,  “ Please make me ready to be free of all this!”
Then consider:  if you knew you would die tomorrow, is this the junk that you
would want to be cradling in your arms as you go?
SO OFFER UP ALL THE PAGES  AND SET THEM ON FIRE.  BURN THEM.
And dispose of the ashes in running water (whether it's a bucolic stream
or a city sink).   It can be wonderful afterwards to take a cleansing bath in hot
salty water and imagine as the water drains any vestiges of this past are leaving.
Ask that this transformative power bring only the highest and most inspiring
outcomes to yourself and the planet--
and, if you’re really evolved, to the other person(s) as well.
The Scorpio phoenix, the mythological sacred bird rising from the ashes of
destruction, LOVES this.  You'll never have a better astrological time to let all
this go, I promise you. If not now, when?

Quick updates:

WORKSHOPS
If you are ready to jettison fear, negativity and limitation from your daily thoughts
in a systematic way, come to the next workshop!  There are 4 spaces remaining
at the $129 level for Part 1 of the Beta Mind workshop in Alameda November 20/21.
There are no spaces remaining at the $129 level for Part 2 on December 4/5
(most of the people from Part 1 in September already snagged them).  However you
are welcome to come at the $159 level if you have completed a teleclass or Part 1.
Here is the link to register or for more info:
http://www.toshasilver.com/080207_workshops.html
Cheela this morning suggested calling this work, "How to Turn Your Mind into
Your Best Ally."  "That's what I've gotten from them, " she said. "I went from
having a mind that undermined me at every turn to one that reliably supports
my highest efforts."   I thought that was a good description.
If you'd like to read (or reread) the Seven Top Reasons for taking these
workshops, here's the trusty link for  that:
www.toshasilver.com/newsletter.html

FINALLY, A NEW TELECLASS!!
Many of you are writing from locations outside Northern California (who can’t make
it to the in-person workshop) requesting a telephone class to do this spiritual course
of study.  (There’s one teleclass that's been going nonstop for about a year, a very
dynamic group).  But I finally feel ready to initiate a new phone class to cover some
of the same information as the in-person workshops.
I am looking at starting an intensive 5-week class on Mondays beginning November 15
from 3-4:30 PM California time  (to accommodate all those of you in New York and Europe
who keep asking).  So it would be 5 pm for the Chicago folk, 6 pm for New York, and so on.
The class would be limited to 15 people and the cost would be $245. We would finish before
Christmas.   If enough of you write to me in the next week to say you can do this date and
time, I will find the conference line to make this happen and set up a link for you to register.
******

Okay, enough.
Keep breathing, drink lots of water, get yourself in water, meditate, be kind to yourself and
everyone else you can think of-- the eclipses are about to begin.
(And if you want a little internet inspiration, I suggest  www.onemillionacts.com, a website
set up to inspire people to initiate random acts of kindness.  Very cool.)
And let these words of the Sufi master Hafiz rock you to sleep tonight:

Just sit there right now
Don't do a thing
Just rest.
For your separation from God,
From love,
is the hardest work
in this world.
Let me bring you trays of food
and something
that you like to drink.
You can use my soft words
As a cushion
For your head.

From 14th century Persia to your own heart,
With love, happiness and courage to you,
Tosha
(As usual, please do forward this email to whoever you think would be
grateful to receive it.  Thank you!)

October Eclipse Update—Part 2
------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------
"Every person makes a single fundamental decision in life:
is the universe friendly or not?"
—Albert Einstein

"Whatever problem you currently face can never be solved from
the same level of consciousness that created it."
—Yep, him again

"This is a blessing in disguise; it's just that the disguise is really,
really, really good."
—Mary Mannin Morrisey
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi everyone,
Hope you're weathering these eclipses well.
I love this first quote.
Either we're victims of a random, heartless universe or we're
co-creators in a benevolent, friendly one. Sometimes when there's
such suffering in this world it can be hard to see, but I deeply believe in
the universe's inherent goodness and that we attract to ourselves
according to our expectation.
I'm a big fan of Rob Brezny who writes the Free Will Astrology column
syndicated in many papers. He promotes the idea of "pronoia."
The opposite of paranoia, this is the belief that everything in the
universe is conspiring to shower you with blessings.
After watching a few hundred people go thru the workshops and
teleclasses I've been teaching, I believe pronoia works because we
train the inner mind to expect blessings and create a conduit for their
constant arrival. People have written after these classes and said,
"I felt so blocked. Now new situations and miracles are happening
that are beyond my dreams."
Playing with pronoia can be a true tonic in the midst of this fearful
culture. Since we're still between the eclipses (next one Wednesday)
at a time of amplified wattage, what we think and focus upon has extra power.
Why not walk around for a day just repeating, "The world is waiting to shower
me with blessings. Everyone I meet is longing to help me."
This does work.
The receptive inner alpha mind will believe whatever you tell it with
consistency and faith. You create a vibrational pattern so those people
(animals, things, deities, forces of nature) who genuinely want to help you
can come forward. Also, since this world is a perfect mirror of our conscious-
ness the statement can easily become "I shower this world with blessings.
My love assists everyone I meet."

As the Sufi saint Hafiz says,
"Become the one
who changes the luck of everyone
when you walk in the room."

Hi everyone...

Well, despite the fact that you may feel today as if a two by four smacked
you over the head (a very strong and volatile full moon arrived in Pisces
last night), the energies definitely start to lighten this week, particularly
after Thursday. I promise you. So hang in there, breathe, levitate, surrender,
do whatever it takes, it does lighten up.

More about all this in a moment, but first here are a few other updates...

==================
Beta Mind Workshops
==================

Has your mind been driving you crazy under these current transits? Well, good news...
since there's only four spaces remaining for the Sept 18 and 19 Beta Mind workshops in
Alameda, I've decided to just leave the reduced $139 rate for everyone... (Have you noticed
how under mercury retrograde you change your mind again and again and again? It's like
everyone on the planet becomes a Gemini with LIbra rising for three weeks). So here's your
chance...those spots will most likely fill this week...here's the link for more information and
to register...(but if you go to register after tomorrow please email me first to make sure
there's still space.

========================
Harbin Hot Springs evening,
Sunday night, Sept 12 7:30 PM
========================

Another wonderful development...For those of you in Northern Calfornia I'll be doing a free
introductory evening to the Beta Mind workshops up at Harbin Hot Springs, Sun. Sept 12...
This is a great excuse to come spend Sunday at the pools, go to the evening workshop, stay
overnight, and skip work on Monday! A beautiful 2 1/2 hour drive north from the Bay Area,
Harbin has been one of my hideouts for 25 years; it's terrific to finally teach there. ...here's
their website for more info about the place: www.harbin.org.
If you know you want come that night, you must book a room in advance unless you are
going to camp. They really get busy. Their number is (800) 622-2477.
I'm also looking at teaching a full weekend workshop there in the winter. Stay tuned!

============
Cds and MP3s
============

Well, a bunch of you are writing from the New York workshops saying, "Hey, when are
you gonna have recordings available of those workshops? You said you would soon!"
I am really sorry. Now let me make a really good astrological excuse: I was born with
Neptune exactly on my ascendant...wonderful for my chosen work, but a bit, shall we say,
organizationally challenged. The CDs are definitely coming. Cheela and I are still in the
process of editing them and it does take a while. We're also hoping to have MP3s available
on the website so you can just download talks on specific topics. Immediate gratification.
But this will take a while to set up also. It's coming.

========
Readings
========
Just to clarify because several of you asked. The hour long psychic readings are
not limited only to prior clients. You can definitely refer your safe and sane friends.
Usually a two week wait. As usual, it is much easier to get an appointment reaching
me by email first than phone.

*****************************
MONDAY—AUGUST 30
*****************************
Today we still have that very heavy energy of the moon combined with Pluto going direct after six
months. You may remember Pluto, the sacred planet of death and rebirth, that I wrote about pretty
extensively in earlier mailings... the first couple days of this directional change can be tricky; Pluto
can bring up what has been buried or hidden, especially emotionally (combined with that full moon).
If you can roll with it, this is a good thing. And then within a couple days, Pluto being direct can create
much welcome, forward motion, especially because it happens this week while Mercury, ever-playful
planet of communication, finally goes direct on Thursday.
Each mercury retrograde has its own essence. This time there's been a dominance of Virgo.
Because every sign has its positive and negative (every sign, don't listen to the bad rumors about
Scorpio and Leo) the high side of Virgo is definitely the focus on service.

I've been thinking lately how this sense of giving can be applied in a practical way.

I really love Asian art and recently received a large picture of a dancing geisha. I wanted to get it decently
framed and in what seemed a stroke of serendipity, saw a sign at the local art shop: "For this week only,
all framing 50% off!" I thought "Hmm, framing under mercury retrograde, probably not such a great idea..."
but I went in anyway and created my order.

Two days later I felt an irresistable urge to return. "Can we just go over my order again?" I asked.
The owner was annoyed but consented. I quickly saw that they had somehow confused my details and
were planning to use a different frame than I'd picked. I set everything straight and thought, "Great, glad
I nabbed that one...now all should be fine."
No. I went a few days later to pick up the picture. It had vanished. They searched the shop, nowhere to be
found. When they finally called me later to say they'd accidentally filed it under someone else. Mercury again.
So I head over to pick up my picture. And I see to my amazement that my dancing geisha no longer has feet.
I am breathing deep to keep from yelling. "WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO HER FEET?"
"Oh, we had to cover them with the mat to make it the right size for the frame, is that a problem?"
IS THAT A PROBLEM? "Well, I just thought since she had feet when I brought her to be framed it might be
nice if she still had some now..."
"Oh."
"CAN YOU FIX THAT? Please help me understand. Why didn't you just make a bigger frame??"
"I don't know,' said the guy. 'You'll have to talk to the owner, he'll be here tomorrow."
By now I'm understanding that their work is 50% off cuz you'll spend the money you save on bodywork
to recuperate. I am really starting to get angry. But before I call the owner the next day I make a psychic
shift. I don't like what these feelings are doing to me. I decide to drop all the annoyance about wasted
time and energy. I'm meditating and just sending him blessings. I'm imagining it must be very stressful
for him to own this absolutely crazy art store. I send him only good wishes and happiness.
I visualize us talking calmly and the problem being remedied quickly.
And when I went in, everything was resolved very fast. We had a good laugh about the framing.
I really recommend when you have a stressful situation with someone to try this. Simply sit and send
them good wishes, no matter how furious you are. See them as someone who may be having a hard
time just trying to get thru
the day. See their life becoming easier, see them becoming happier. If it's a conversation you need to
have, see the two of you talking comfortably. If you do this on the psychic plane, you immediately open
the door to the physical.

Works (almost) every time.

And it puts you immediately into that Virgoan sense of service. If even in the most frustrating of situations
you continue to view this person with compassion and acceptance, everything changes and opens.

So as the cycle shifts (and shifts again) here are some words from Rumi to levitate you through....

Come! Take a pickaxe
And break apart
Your stony self.
The heart's matrix
is glutted with rubies.
Springs of laughter
are buried in your breast.
Unstop the wine jar
Batter down the door
To the treasury
of nonexistence.
The water in your jug
is brakish and low.
Smash the jug
and come to the river!

With love and blessings to you,
Tosha

Newsletter # 4—August 18

Hi everyone...

I have great news about the upcoming Beta Mind Intensive on September 18th and 19th. I have found a terrific venue right in Alameda, the sweet beach town where I live (many thanks to Mary on this list who recommended it). It's centrally located, a 25 minute drive from Berkeley and San Francisco, maybe 15 minutes from Oakland (and for those of you coming from out of town, 45 minutes from SFO, 20 minutes from Oakland airport). It's a light spacious garden cottage able to hold 30 people comfortably, quiet, peaceful, very conducive to meditation, part of a metaphysical center (can you believe I've been living 10 minutes from a lovely spiritual center for 9 years and never knew it?)...Also only 6 blocks from the beach which there will be plenty of time to visit if you wish. (And for those from out of town, September is often one of our more exquisite Northern California months).
There is just one change (and mercury retrograde always brings changes...). The hours of the workshop would be slightly different than announced. Saturday Sept 18 would still be 1-5 pm but Sunday Sept 19 would change to 3-6 pm because of the center's schedule. The space is so special I felt it was worth shifting our times a bit.
Also, I'm extending the $139 reduced rate for another week for those of who were waiting to see which side of the bay the workshop would land in (I cannot tell you how many people wrote requesting it be in the East Bay after my last email... Okay, I got the message, I guess some of you never cross the bridge into the city! Ironically no one from San Francisco wrote to protest coming to the East Bay... this was really fascinating...)
Anyway, here's the link for the new updated information. The workshop is already half full and we're still a month away. Would you give me two afternoons to help take your intuition to a whole new level? If you sense this is for you, please register while there's space...

http://www.toshasilver.com/080207_workshops.html
================================================

Well, by now you've probably gotten the hang of this mercury retrograde thing...yes, it's true--items get lost in the mail, computer problems abound, traffic snarls, all of that and more; you've probably been experiencing it plenty. I take it as a chance to see how much I can breathe, let go, and pretend I know how to be really, really patient.

However, as I mentioned in the last email, this transit has a positive side too, particularly with mercury being in Virgo, one of its rulers. This is a good time for saying things that have needed to be said but weren't, those conversations or letters that would be a relief to get off your chest. And for finishing up anything from the past that's been procrastinated over. Also, to remind you, it's an excellent period for detoxifying the body and diet. I've been on a wonderful cleanse for last 8 days; the Virgo vibration is of great help. Ridding your home of all unnecessary objects and reorganizing anything that is chaotic also is good under this aspect. (As some of you know, we work in the Beta Mind workshop with "creating a vacuum" for positive change so clearing your home now is a good prep).

And be sure to rest!
Whenever we get a strong retrograde cycle we are being given time to recoup, to recharge our batteries. When Mercury goes direct September 2 the cycle will speed up again so if you don't rest now it might be harder then.
But you may also find this Virgo cycle is increasing a tendency towards worry and anxiety (perhaps you thought it was only those ever-exciting terror alerts in the paper each week?). Virgo has been known to be a worrywart sign. But also Virgo is forever looking for healing and improvement, particularly with the mind.

After twenty-five years of giving an almost insane number of psychic readings (and still continuing to do some), I started these seminars to help people receive the answers from the inside. Many of the techniques I learned in my own training as a psychic years ago. But I also began the classes as a response to what I saw again and again: so many people felt gripped by their fears and anxieties, even people who had meditated steadily for some time with one tradition or another.
Here's an excerpt from a rather fabulous letter I recently received from a woman in the New York workshops:
"Okay Tosha, listen. I used to be a world-class worrier. I'm not kidding. I grew up in New York, I've lived here my whole life, and worry used to be like a sacred religious observance for me. If I didn't worry a good part of each day I felt even more nervous! So, if anybody said that I could feel the calm I've felt since our May workshop without the help of several serious drugs, I'd never believe it. But I'm using these techniques steadily each day, and I kid you not, this stuff works. My friends are amazed by the change in me." Ana B, Staten Island, NY
I myself spent many years filled with anxiety, particularly in my twenties and early thirties. But two big lessons came from that time. One is to never worry for other people. When you worry about someone you love you literally inundate their energy field with anxiety. But when you take the same focused intensity and send blessings instead, it's so powerful. They actually can feel, whether they consciously know it or not, your good wishes and protection. You can make an amazing difference.
Also, this may be obvious, but most worry comes from believing we are in the driver's seat. Ironically, because our thoughts create our reality, we are in that seat in a certain way. But once you invite the intimate help of the inner deity, the divine self, the pressure of being in control lets go. So much anxiety releases with inviting this help.
There are two reliable keys to opening the inner intuition rapidly One is using psychic techniques to protect ourselves from outside fear and negativity. The second is diving into a partnership with the inner self, the god within our own hearts that also yearns to connect with us. Once there is both outer protection and inner connection, the intuition arises spontaneously and powerfully. Then it can be trained to grow stronger and stronger. We focus on all this in the Beta Mind intensive.

So enjoy these remaining days of summer and mercury retrograde. I'll be writing again sometime this month with a few more ideas about how to make the most of the current astrological weather. Looking forward to hearing from you soon (whether you can come to the workshop this time or not, I've enjoyed hearing from so many of you!)
Until then, blessings and love to you,

July 16 2004 — Newsletter # 3

Hi everyone...

I didn't know that I was going to write a part 3 (most of you received the first two reports) but so many of you are writing to say, yes, indeed, the energy has been exceedingly strange and challenging; having a context has made all the difference. So, since the larger cosmic energy may well be on the verge of shifting, here's what's been going on...

This is the week that we may see a lightening of the energy, with a New Moon in Gemini arriving on Thursday, June 17...These last three weeks have been rare, amazing, and achingly uncomfortable for many...It's been a really unusual combination of factors, as I mentioned in the earlier emails, the unusual and long retrograde of Venus in Gemini, the slow dissolution of Mars conjunct Saturn, the crossing of Venus over the sun, and finally, and perhaps most profoundly, the fiery intensity of Pluto in this whole story.

So let me say a few loving words about that too-often-maligned planet, Pluto.
Pluto, lord of the underworld, ruler of the sign Scorpio, planet of death and absolute rebirth, has been one of the keys to the past few weeks, and will continue a while longer. It has been opposing Venus in the sky (ruling our relationships and values), opposing Mercury (our thinking) and finally on Thursday, opposing the Moon ( our emotions) and Sun (our core identities). When Pluto is in touch with so many planets at once it's a bit like going thru surgery (without an anesthetic). Every area of our lives is getting the once-over. In fact, one way to see the last stretch would be to say, this long Venus retrograde and Mars/Saturn conjunction acted together to stop many of the routines of our lives and set the stage SO PLUTO COULD DO HER WORK.
And what is the work of Pluto? Pluto is the ultimate planet of purification, physical, emotional, and spiritual. If we allow it, wherever the pipes are blocked, Pluto will unblock them, no matter what it takes (in fact several of you were writing to me about plumbing problems in your homes during this time...) Pluto brings out what's underground, the truth underground, no matter how pretty the surface appearance looks.
And it reveals incongruities, where we may be saying one thing but living a very different reality. If we let Pluto do its purifying work, what we say and what we live can be the same, we can have a radiant and vital authenticity. Charlie Parker, the great musician, once said, "Lots of people can play notes well. But until someone has lived every note they are playing, they can't play jazz." That's Pluto.
And Caroline Casey, a terrific astrologer from Washington recently said, "Whatever you react to impulsively, imprisons you. Better to have a creative array of responses than to be in that prison of impulse". So with Pluto, our knee-jerk, programmed reactions come to the surface...fear, depression, anxiety, greed, self-hatred, jealousy, despair, impatience, whatever. Any difficult emotion or mental pattern we've been feeling in the last few weeks might well be a default we've carried since childhood. And Pluto comes to dig this up and heal it. (And as my friend Elizabeth suggests, "Stop being so esoteric, Tosha. It's also a good time to drink alot of water, get more exercise, remember to breathe, and eat less chocolate!")
I know for some it's an acquired taste, but how can you not love Pluto? After all, it's the ultimate planet of liberation. In the Hindu pantheon, Pluto is Kali and Durga, Rudra and Shiva all wrapped up in one fiery bundle. Pluto is the cosmic destroyer--the destroyer of what imprisons us within ourselves and releases us to divine joy and love. Our own negativities and fears, hatreds and illusions are what get taken. (And for those of you who chant, the Rudram and any chants to Kali and Durga are real tonics right now). In particular, with all the energy of the divine feminine so strong this month (with Venus crossing the Sun recently) Kali and Durga, the great Plutonic Goddesses of transformation, are incredible allies to invite into our lives. But truly, whoever or whatever you relate to as the inner personal deity of your own heart that's where the help is...

If you notice that a certain difficult emotion or mental pattern has ruled the last few weeks, you can literally offer it to this Lord of transformation, this inner fire. A very good prayer under these transits is:
"Burn away these impurities. Take away what has limited my thinking. No matter what it takes, free me." You can befriend this inner force and say, "I'm ready, do what's needed. Free me from these self-imposed patterns, release me to my highest potential. Release me to all the love and power I have inside."

****
You can see how closely these transits align with the upcoming Beta Mind workshops I'm doing in New York on June 27-30. You could consider each workshop a sacred invocation of Pluto, an invitation to come and clear and sanctify our thought patterns--because no matter what the transits, what we think really is what we get. Our thoughts constantly dissolve and create our realities. So why not create the absolute highest?
Also, over the years of giving readings I saw that people had the most wise and articulate answers inside, they just often weren't listening. They would say, "I knew that, but I wasn't paying attention." (In fact the only information ever worth receiving from anyone should give you that "thud" of inner recognition. If someone tells you something that doesn't "feel right" in a reading, it's probably cuz it's wrong...) So even though I'm continuing to give readings, I'm loving teaching these workshops for people to contact their own free, full-time, always-on-call 24-hours-a-day inner psychics.
And who is this inner psychic anyway but the ever-present inner deity, the ishvara devata, the personal form of God we each hold in our hearts? The techniques to receive clear answers from this inner voice are easy to learn and absolutely life changing.
So won't you come join me in New York?
I leave for the East Coast on June 22 but you'll be able to register until June 26 on the website,
http://www.toshasilver.com/080207_workshops.html
We've added the workshop address to the registration page so everything you need is on this link (although if you're having any trouble with the site, please email me). Also, for those non-New Yorkers who have been asking for hotel recommendations in the neighborhood, just drop me a note and i'll send you a few.
Finally, thank you for forwarding this email to anyone who you think needs it.

Many blessings and much love to you as this cycle begins to open her wings....

June 8, 2004 — Newsletter # 2

Hi everyone...

Well, I promised a part 2 to the transit report from last week. It was kind of amazing how that one got emailed all around. I started hearing from unknown people in places like Hong Kong and Winnipeg saying, "Wow, at least I know it's not just me!" That's one of the aspects of astrology that's so healing, breaking down the false sense of isolation so many people live with. Major planetary transits like the mars/saturn conjunction are the great equalizers...everyone gets affected by them to some extent, regardless of individual conditions.
Speaking of mars/saturn...as I was mentioning last time, it can create a feeling of real tension, since the planet of action meets the consummate planet of resistance...those two planets are finally beginning to separate this week altho it's slow going (sometimes it can feel like melting an ice floe with a hair dryer). Saturn literally does rule the freezing of things, and many people wrote about feeling frozen or suspended in different aspects of their lives. After June 10 mars and saturn are 10 degrees apart which should finally allow movement to begin to re-enter; particularly after June 17th, the new moon in Gemini, the energy opens up more and more.
Also, last night and today, this beautiful and rare occultation of venus and sun is occurring. I'll only write about it briefly because you could google "venus occultation" and read for the next six hours.
The crossing of the venus in front of the sun is so signficant...venus rules love, beauty, the inner voice of the heart, and also the power of the feminine, especially the divine feminine (one of my favorite topics of obsession). Back in 1882 when this last occurred the women's suffrage movement began to unfold. So some kind of new empowerment of women may be underway. And the divine feminine is such an interesting layer of this story...the idea that this transit may be invoking a powerful sacred feminine force to balance our seriously out-of-balance world. However this venus/sun aspect is happening opposing pluto, the planet of power and mass transformation. So don't just expect happy circles of people dancing to the Goddess with daisies in their hair. The energy may be like that t-shirt you sometimes see here in California, "God is coming...and is She pissed!" We'll see. But what a blessing to be alive for this transit...
But in the meantime, what a wonderful week for prayer, meditation, affirmations of the highest order.
When we are at big shift points like this a particularly helpful affirmation is simply, "Let the divine plan for my life unfold. However I can be of greatest use in this cycle, let it unfold. Let every gift I have be used for the greatest benefit of the planet right now."
Our culture tends to teach us to become more and more fearful and contracted in transitional cycles but it's really just the opposite. As soon as you affirm the highest, and particularly place the focus on being of benefit to the planet, miracles begin. All sorts of synchronicities and magic start to happen. By offering yourself over, you place yourself in the perfect flow of shakti, the divine energy, for the right changes to come.
It's also, as i mentioned last week, a particularly good time to continue cleaning out and re-ordering your home and belongings through the entire venus retrograde cycle until the end of june. And it's a good week to get some rest because once the cycle of movement really begins on the 17th, it will grow more and more active. So rest while you can. Many times cycles of obstacles simply happen to get us to rest (and then we spend them worrying! isn't that crazy?...later you look back and go, "why on earth didn't I just rest?")
Years ago I was sitting in a sushi bar reading my ephemeris (the table of planets) and this guy said, "Hey, what's that? Some kinda weird bus schedule?" And I said, "Yes, definitely, A weird cosmic bus schedule." The planets arrive and depart right on schedule but we have so many choices about how to handle the movements to keep our own energy as high as possible.
One reason I started the beta mind seminars and teleclasses was to help people feel empowered in their cycles, as opposed to victimized. I would so often hear someone say in a reading, "Oh my transits are so terrible" or "I have such bad karma." This would just break my heart. Simply to be born in human body and have a chart at all is such an amazing gift! Since the chart is the map of the karma we came to resolve, it's an incredible opportunity for healing and resolution.
I called the seminars "What you think is what you get" because we do magnetize to ourselves according to our thoughts. Someone might say, "Oh, I have Pluto in the 7th, I'll never have a wonderful relationship, the books say so." But this is so untrue! The chart often indicates where we need to change our thinking to create what we desire, where we need to shift our encoded mental tendencies, or (in sanskrit) the samskaras. The chart can show a mental pattern of energy which has persisted for so many lifetimes we assume it to be the truth. The spiritual and psychic work we do in these seminars to change these patterns of thinking can create very rapid transformation, even in the course of two evenings. No need to be at the mercy of your chart again!
Over the years I have read so many amazing, inspiring people with established spiritual practices, years of meditation, frequent spiritual retreats, years of devotion to this path or that, who were still very much struggling with the negative tendencies of the mind. The techniques we work with in these seminars are a wonderful addition to any spiritual path you're currently on. The group who came to the May workshops was extremely diverse.
Although all the early-bird spots for the Manhattan workshops June 27-30th are sold out, there is still some space in both workshops. The easiest way to register is by going directly to the link
http://www.toshasilver.com/080207_workshops.html
And have a wonderful, restful week feeling the tranquil, beautiful vibrations of Venus,
Love,
Tosha

Newsletter # 1 — May 2004

Hi everyone...

Well, many people wrote back from the last email saying, "Venus retrograde? Mars conjunct Saturn?  What is going on right now?..the energy has been quite strange!"  So since many of you are mentioning this, as well as people in the readings, I thought you might like an astrological update.  It's been quite intense!  As you know,  astrology is one of my passions, but I'm taking a little break from doing charts to organize the empowerment workshops.  So it's fun to give you some of the information this way.

Three major factors are all hitting at once.

1)  The Eclipse factor...
Every year, twice a year,we have a pair of eclipses which stir up the collective energy.
Their purpose is always evolutionary in the highest sense, to clear out the old
and bring in the new, to remove stagnant conditions that we might otherwise resist.

We had a solar eclipse on April 19 at the last degree of Aries.

But then we had a lunar eclipse on May 4 in Scorpio, that was very strong...
it made some particularly tricky squares to Neptune.
Now you may be thinking, so what? That's ancient history, eclipses back all those
weeks ago...
But most eclipses take 30 days to come to fruition.  So for many people the
period between May 19 and June 4 is the actual period when these eclipses come
to bear.  There's a saying that eclipses take out the corpses...meaning, if something
is over the eclipse will make it (sometimes painfully) obvious;
and if something is healthy and vital the eclipse will strengthen it.
So many people are feeling the fruits of those April/May eclipses right now.
I always do an affirmation/prayer during these eclipse cycles:
"Whatever is meant to go, I happily let it go.  And whatever wants to come,
I welcome it to come.  I operate in perfect harmony with these tides of
change." Or any similar concept you can dream up.

2) The Mars factor..
The two eclipses in Aries and Scorpio were ruled by the planet Mars.  Mars rules forward
motion and action...it's the energy in each of us that motivates change and movement...
so those eclipses being ruled by Mars kicked up alot of restlessness and desire for change
AND YET, guess what?  By May 25 we were having our once a year meeting of Mars and
Saturn in the sky!  Mars and Saturn together is a bit like driving with one foot on the brake
and one foot flooring the accelerator...it's the principle of action meeting the principle of
resistance.  It can bring ENORMOUS frustration.  (One woman in the teleclasses said she
had put a sign up on her office wall saying, "Bang head here!"  Perfect Mars/Saturn)....
The conjunction of the two planets together lasted about a week and is just barely breaking
up now as you get this.
A great affirmation/prayer for Mars/Saturn times is "I have complete divine patience.
I trust that everything unfolds at the perfect time, in the perfect way."

3)  The Venus factor...
So Venus has been retrograde since May 17 and will go direct June 29.
This retrograde is relatively rare, only occurring once every two years.
On the mundane level Venus rules your relationships (business as well
as personal) but also your bank account and even the details of how you
keep your life "beautiful".  So it can bring anything from old relationships
from the past resurfacing to old problems in current relationships emerging.
And it can bring challenges with the finances, where money due is held up...
you know it's coming but it's taking faith and patience to trust.
I always like to assume every transit has an ultimately positive purpose no
matter how frustrating.  So in Venus retrograde you review your relationships
and look at what needs changing.  You look at your finances and see what
needs to be handled.  It's particularly a fabulous time for cleaning up any old
stagnant energy from the past. So this month of June is perfect for cleaning
out your closets, giving away what you don't use or need, finishing up projects
that are incomplete...Venus retrograde is made for this!  Those of you in the
teleclasses and at the recent New York workshops heard many details about
how this works psychically.
If you want to bring in the new, clean out the old!
You don't even have to know what you want, but if you start to clear out the
old, the new magically comes.  So old clothes, magazines, books, clutter,
opens a psychic gateway for the new.  And also letting go of old resentments
and grudges is critical. Particularly with Venus retrograde right now ruling
relationships.
A great prayer/affirmation for Venus retrograde is "Help me release
any resentments from the past.  I easily release any old negativity
to invite all the highest into my life."

It's meaningful that the classes at the end of June in New York will fall just as
Venus finally goes direct.  In fact I would say for anyone who has signed up,
or is planning to sign up, one of the best things you could do in preparation
is clean out your apartment or house!   (But that's true for everyone else
right now as well...)

A last word on Venus retrograde.
The astrologer Eric Francis has said that while Mercury might be the voice
of the mind, Venus is the voice of heart.  I think that's so true.
So as Venus is retro it's good to listen more closely to the sacred voice of
the heart, and to notice where we may have paid it less attention
that it deserves.
It's also a good time to redo anything that needs redoing.
Along those lines I want you to know we re-did the web page for the New
York classes one more time (I'm telling you, Venus retrograde is
just like this!)...so please take a look...I think it's set now...

http://www.toshasilver.com/080207_workshops.html
There is one final big transit left to tell you about but I think I'll write
about it next week; I'm running out of space.  The occultation of Venus
and the Sun will occur on June 8, a very major astrological event.
Meanwhile, hope you enjoyed getting oriented with the planets.
During stretches like these, knowing what's happening astrologically
can be bring great peace of mind.
With love and blessings,
Tosha
